Hi all.
i love modding. especialy building a case from scratch.
i also love the Apple Cube.
i have a pc based on an AMD processor , 512MB of ram , 2 HD (40G and 160G) and a DVD burner.
i use my pc for video editing.
while working on video editing (the cpu is most of the time at 100%) i have noticed that the case got very hot and sometimes the OS froze.
after installing a small software i could monitor the cpu temp and the case temp.
i have noticed that with the previous case the temp was somewhere around 50 deg C. not very good.
you can see all the pictures at:

Yea coo. I have been weanting to build a completely exposed system for a whil also. I was going to use a steel bast instead of acrylic though.

Hi Yoshi.
big fan of your work.
I also thought of building a steal cage , but it reminded me of the old fishtanks so i have decided to make a plexiglass insted.
It is not finished , yet.
The finall goal is to have something like the Apple cube.

thats strange that you have problems with heat. usually open "case" computers run normal

I used to have heat problems in the old case (he wasn`t open).
Now , when it`s an open case (for now) the temp is down by 8 deg C.

Hi All.
After working with the new case for a while, i have noticed that the cables (that are coming from the bottom) are causing a lot of stress on the connectors and i was afraid that this will break the motherboard.
So i decided to return to the normal look where the cables come from the rear of the case.
This is how the new case looks from the front:
http://grm.m.walla.co.il/briefcase/00f3/a/m/i/r/_/c/h/e/n/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/r/200410041510192967/200410251457409552/front.JPG

This is the first stage.
Next i want to connect the HDs and the DVD-Burner to the case (now they are just sitting there), and also connect the PSU to the case.
And also cover the entire case with Aluminum like wallpaper , and make a front and back that looks like the G5 case (plastic with holes).

Great mod!
I would cut bigger holes to allow better airflow. Use a holesaw to cut the plexi and get a fan grill (http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/scan/se=Fan%20Accessories/se=Laser%20Cut%20Grills%20120mm/mp=menu_search.html) to protect your figers.
Also, if your confident with a dremel and electronics, you could put a window in your disc drive that will go well with the clear case.
Your wires would look great if you sleeved (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=12-999-032&depa=0) or loomed them.

Hi Lightning.
The fan is now in the front of the case and has one big hole (without a finger protection yet).

I got the plexiglass for the front and back.
In the front i have decided to drill small holes and make like a net for the front fan:
http://grm.m.walla.co.il/briefcase/00f3/a/m/i/r/_/c/h/e/n/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/r/200410282143046403/200410282144336382/FronFanHoles.JPG
and also put the fan cable in a sleeve:

The back also got a cover and holes for the conenctors:
http://grm.m.walla.co.il/briefcase/00f3/a/m/i/r/_/c/h/e/n/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/r/200410282143046403/200410282143414753/Connectors.JPG
And for the hot air of the PSU:

The front USB connectors, the Power button and the LEDs (power and HD) are ,for now, just sitting on top of the case:
http://grm.m.walla.co.il/briefcase/00f3/a/m/i/r/_/c/h/e/n/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/r/200410282143046403/200410282145158036/Temp_Front_USB_Power_Button_and_LEDs.JPG
I have a rectangle hole on the back of the top of the case. i want to put all those controls on a rectangle plate and put it at an angle in the hole.
The cables of the controls are at a sleeve:
http://grm.m.walla.co.il/briefcase/00f3/a/m/i/r/_/c/h/e/n/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/r/200410282143046403/200410282143299280/Cables-Sleeve.JPG

And this is how it looks from the front:
http://grm.m.walla.co.il/briefcase/00f3/a/m/i/r/_/c/h/e/n/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/@/r/200410282143046403/200410282144051611/Fron.JPG
Next step are legs (there is a rectangle hole on the bottom of the case for the PSU to get cold air), and lightning.
Untill next time,
Amir
