View Full Version : The Airflow Shuttle

I got sick of my Shuttle cooling problems, no matter what, with the case on it still was hotter than with it off. So I'll get to the point... Well im designing a new Shuttle...and this one wont get too hot. No it isnt water cooling, it isnt vapor cooling, or nitrous. Its simply good airflow. The computer will be based off the Subaru WRX STi, and once completed it will be sent to Subaru. The top of the Shuttle will be a hood that will raise on lifts, like a car hood/trunk has. With this, will raise with it the CD rom, and hood scoop that rests ontop of the case. This will reveal the innerds of the case. The hood scoop will be a scaled down version of the one on the WRX, and will contain two 60mm fans and atleast 3 40mm pushing the air down toward the CPU at the back end of the case, then blown downward by 2 80 mm's. The side of the case will have a air intake like a Lamborghini has (i know, not Subaru, but the STI doesnt have anything more fitting that i can use) that will flow into the video card fan. On the opposite side (the right side of the case) sits 2 60mm's pushing air to the CPU through this intake grill. In the front of the case, the CD rom will be that of a laptop, with a rounded door. This door will be airbrushed to look like a car grille and have the Subaru and STi logos on it. This CD rom will curve to the form of the shuttle, just as the actual car does. Below the CD rom sits a air intake, just as what cools the intercooler on the WRX. This intake will flow right to the ram, with a 60MM fan pulling the air from behind. The buttons and front controls of the case will be removed, the holes made flush, and the buttons moved elsewhere (to be decided). My goal is to get the intake as loud as possible, even if i have to chop off a fan blade or two to do it. The intake fans will operate via a switch on the PCI slot and roar(hopefully) to a start. Ive got all the sketches done, all angles, prospectives, and 3d's but nothing scanned, and my scanner decided to break (go HP!) so i cant really give you any images, but as soon as i get started, which should be this saturday ill begin updating.

Heres some pics of what i talked about above:

This is how the hood on the actual computer should work, with the CD-rom grill going with it.
