WaterCooling, do you trust it?
I'll tell ya right now I don't trust it!
Even though people get good results. I don't like the thought of having water that close to my $2000 box!

It's gotten a lot safer for the consumer lately. I really wouldn't care to do it though. It's too hard to maintain. I personally like vapo-chills, which is the basic idea of the fridge in your kitchen.
If I was going to do water-cooling, I would use a non-conductive, but very heat conductive oil. If it springs a leak, then it won't fry my... well... my life... *cries*.
Also, if you go into water cooling, GET A BIG WATERBLOCK AND A CPU SHIM! Just a little advice. If for some reason your pump stops working, or you forget to turn it on, that big block will save your life (and sanity). I've known a couple of people to do that. And never forget the shim, you really do NOT want to crush your poor CPU's core, now do you ?

How much does a decent water cooling system cost? I'm looking into overclocking my 1800+ but I don't want to risk screwing it up with standard air cooling.
Thank you.

A decent water cooling kit usually starts around $249.99.

I have a water cooled system. The case (Koolance PC2-901) costs about $300.00 USD. I have had very good results and I would recommend it.

The water does not scare me at all. You just have to know what you are doing. If you are not sure you can do it yourself you can buy a koolance watercooling case, if you trust yourself build your own setup and have fun. Its not too hard to do, my friend got his working first time. No leaks!!

sure i trust it. i just don't trust myself to make a water cooling system that won't leak ; )

I have been water / peltier cooling for over a year now. I have done multiple system overhauls and have only had one problem. I got one of the new swiftech pumps and the housing started to leak . Other than that no problems. Yes it takes longer to build but its very simple with a little research. Just get quality products and you wont have a problem. If you into overclocking it will get you some more mgz. If you dont overclock dont bother. Just to speak for some of its attributes as I type i am running at 3.2 ghz on a 2.53. My temps at idel or using less demanding aps are aout 4 c. At full load, running folding ect. I am at about 14 c. This is with a swiftech 462ut, black ice extreme radiator and 226 watt peltier. With my ti4600 i have a 3dmark score at almost 16000 without software tweaks., just overclocking. My system is rock solid at 3.2 and I could not be more happy. If I was to do it now I would get a vapochill. The promethia is cool but its just to big and ugly.
Somthing to think about 250 + for a good water cooling setup or 500 for a vapochill.

Well, vapo chill (phase cooling) and water cooling are kind of the same thing. With water cooling you are absorbing heat with the water, and moving it to a radiator where the water cools. With phase cooling, you use a liquid with an even lower boiling point, so it absorbs more heat, then transfers it to a radiator to get rid of the heat. Only difference is in phase cooling you need to compress the gas to make it a liquid again =).

WaterCooling, do you trust it?
Absolutely, it works for me.
I'll tell ya right now I don't trust it!
Don't judge it too quickly until you've tried it. As long as you do it right, you shouldn't have any problems.
Even though people get good results. I don't like the thought of having water that close to my $2000 box!
That's understandable

i dont care how "non conductive" the solution you put into one of those systems supposedly is. there is still the problem of human error. you can not tell me that the lines for a cooling sys will NEVER break. if you can be so sure they wont why dont the major comp companies actually put them in to begin with. needless to say i wouldent trust the systems as far as i could through them

water cooling is safe. aslong as you do everything with care, you won't have any problems. and the major computer companies don't put watercooling systems in since it's really more of a hobbie thing.

I have been watercooling for 3 and a half years. I still use my own parts except for the waterblock.
It does add another moving part to the mix, so there is one more thing that could go wrong. But I never had any problems because of my watercooling. I overvolted some ram once, but watercooling might have saved it...
I have had 2 expensive experiences with peltiers, but the watercooling is solid.

and the moron of the day award goes to you.. ok.. you don't need to drop 250 bux people come on.. do some research for example www.sysfx.net sells awesome awesome kits for around 120 bux.. that's a all oxygen free copper block <--best heat transferring alloy.. kits come with pumptank , block , tubes.. etc.. Everything even the coolant.. dangerden has some higher priced kits but they are good too , just do your homework , and yes i trust w/c i w/c all my rigs.. and have never paid over 200 dollars for a kit.. and btw.. my oc'd duron 1ghz @ 1.5ghz <--not a huge oc i know but hey i wasn't out for blood runs 29c @ full load in a 27c ambient.. koolance can't touch it , and i doubt anyone else can either.. --Bikr

No need to flame other users.
I'm sorry. I just get a bit touchy when I see 30 posts about how water cooling isnt' worth it because kits are too expensive , yet you can get decent priced kits alot of places.. --Bikr
I think water cooling is great.
If it leaks, then it's my fault for not checking it long enough.
The sound will be a lot quieter.
