Hello everyone, first post! My idea, basically, is to take my boring old room (Sorry, no pics. No camera) and turn it into something that I can enjoy. I'm single, so I don't have a wife or kids to worry about, and I just bought a house. What I'm trying to say, is I don't have a lot of money to swing around on this, so let's say the limit is $10,000. (By the way, I can use the rest of the house for some of the stuff, like putting servers and unnecessary room stuff into my basement)
A basic list of what I want, you will find below.
Not a very big TV, but it should be around 30", flat, and plasma or LCD, preferrably LCD. This, I'm hoping, will be around $2,000, and the most expensive thing on my list. High defenition.. heh.
Some nice audio equipment to go with the TV would be nice. Again, I'm on a budget, so nice, but not overkill.
HTPC. I can't have all of that stereo equipment for nothing, can I? Looking to spend 'enough' on it.
A PC for my room, of course. This one's downstairs. :(
Anyways, I don't think I'm asking too much. Problem is, now that I have house payments, I'm making about $60 extra per month that I can put into it, so I need to figure out some way to make a little more money. Any ideas?
OK, time to elaborate a little bit more on things, and list my options.
--As for the TV, I've only really liked one that I've seen so far. Click Here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001FSCU4/qid=1106180722/br=1-11/ref=br_lf_etk_ce_av__11//002-5076184-3122454?v=glance&s=electronics&n=1203588) Anyways, it's a Viewsonic TV. We use those at work, and myself and my team members really like them. The two main trucks we use have about 15 Viewsonic monitors in them, and we've only had to replace one, and have had no dead pixels. So, unless anyone has any nitpicking to do about the TV, it's most definately my first choice. Very affordable to me as well.
--Time for stereo equipment. For a reciever, I chose a Sony STRDE597 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001NBH2G/ref=ord_cart_shr/002-5076184-3122454?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance). Reason being, the person who reviewed it gave a good review, it supports 6.1, and it's only $170. It basically provides what I want. :) As for speakers, I don't have a clue. DVD/CD/MP3 etc will be handled by my HTPC. Make sure to tell me if I'm missing anything, I'm sort-of new to the audio field.
--Ah, HTPCs are so beautiful. *Heads from Amazon to Newegg* Anyways, I'm going to use MythTV most likely. Therefore, I shall place a 2.8Ghz Celeron (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-112-198&depa=0) into an Asus Pundit AB-P2600 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=56-110-026&depa=0). I'll be sticking 1GB of OCZ Premiere Series (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-996&depa=0) RAM into it as well. As for the harddrive, I've got a quick question to ask. Does the Pundit have SATA support, or do I have to use an IDE drive? Either way, I plan on using a rather large drive. For the tuner, I'll use a Hauppage PVR-250 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=15-116-602&depa=0). (<-- Wait, that's not a HDTV tuner... Time to pick a different one... it's too late xD) Another quick question, does anyone know if the remote included in the PVR-250 is compatible with the Linux remote drivers/software? I forget what it's called at the moment, it starts with an L.
--Computer-wise, I'm still deciding. I'm sure this will change a lot anyways.
