I love this Mod but there where some ideas that I think you could have changed.
You would have been able to the same thing with a PII and windows 98
A cheaper sound card will do as long as it has Digital Out.
I also built a infrared Receiver that will use ALMOST any remote – 4$
Now for the expensive part I bought a 4x40 LCD from www.MPJA.com for $45.42 after tax
I got an old Sony receiver that I tore the guts out of and I am currently cutting up to fit the LCD and CD Drive
I bought an new Keyboard for about $5 w/ a $5 mail-in rebate tore it apart so I can have buttons on the front.
But I am using winamp 2.81 because of the plug-ins
WinIRC for the Remote
And a WinAmp LCD Plugin for the HD44780 Compliant LCD
I really wish you would try to do some of your projects a littler cheaper not everyone has TechTV's Budget. Its cool to see the Big Stuff but better recomendations for less is more.
Have you checked out www.mp3projects.com they have a lot more of these
My favorite and the one I based mine mostly from is www.mp3dx.de

You don't need all that power. I found tiny power supplies online, so small i can mount the EPIA mobo, powersupply, laptop hard drive, laptop DVD drive and fans, all in a NES case.

Yeah it could have been a lot smaller. The point of the project was to have it look like a stereo component. That would fit in a high end system.

My point wasn't for size it was for cost.
I have a Moderatly High end Sound System and Mine works great for as little amount of money I think anyone could get away with. 8)
Yoshi Yours is great if you have the money for the parts. and I'm sure I would do the same if I had the money but I thought cheap (less Expensive) and I'm sure mine doesn't sound any differant than yours. :D

yes that is true you could build it for a lot less money.
Most people wont hear the difference. Believe me when I say I would. I have spent hundreds of hours listening to various high end systems. The differences could be seen very easily with some test equipment but... are the differences that big a deal.... not really. Unless you play a instrument you wouldnt know what to listne for. So yeah 99.9% of people listening wouldnt know. MOst of my freinds couldnt tell the difference between sound cards. I tried that on them just to see. I am also from the school of buy the best you can afford. Ultimately I am the one who would know so I made the choice for myself.
On the power supply. I build it with the plan of upgrading to a terabyte of HD space......

No... The pics I took during construction were accidentally erased..... I had a lot of good pics too.. The case is the only thing still whole. I have been scavenging parts from it for another project. I should put it back together and take pictures of it. At least to show pictures of the finished peice.
