Just thought I would start a thread to see what kind of digital camera everyone uses.

I currently use a Fuji FinePix 3800. Not the best on the market, but good enough for my needs right now. I've had it 2 years.

I really should get a proper Digital Cam. I got a Nikon 3100 but I use my Sony MicroMV IP-55E as a camera more.

Wouldn't you know it - I started this thread just out of curiosity, and now it seems that I'll be using it as sort of a buying guide for a new camera -

http://yoshi.us/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif Mine died a couple days ago, and I can't get it to reset no matter what I do.

I just got a Kodak DX7630, 6.1MP, 32MB Internal. Currently $261.95 at Newegg. I have been waiting for a 5+ MP to get cheap enough to justify (AKA Rationalize) the expense. I bought a SLIK SDV-20 tripod, a 512MB memory card and the Epson 4180 Photo scanner along with it. See what I mean about Rationalize?

The camera works perfect in good light, but the tripod is a must for poor light / long exposure times. I don't like the "Auto" setting, because it uses the flash way too much. I want the indoor shots to look somewhat professional. I use the "Manual" most of the time indoors. It does shoot TIFF, but not RAW (darn!) It can take external filters with an attachment (not included.) Battery life not too bad, but does not take standard rechargeables (that I know of, maybe adapter...). 320x240 Quicktime movies (Eh!? so what) The Video Out to TV (for slide show, .mov) does not work, but sound does. Even if Video Out worked, it's kind of a useless feature if you ask me. Its too easy to do a Kodak Picture Disk for the DVD player.

This is my first "real" camera and I learned fast one simple concept: Fill the camera with light like you fill a bottle with water. Big hole=fills fast Small hole=fills slooooow, Ocean = fast Drip = slow. Just like those leaky bucket problems in CalcII.

I've got a Canon Powershot A85.

its a 4MP, which is plenty good for me. Its got a auto mode, but I prefer manual. -got it a 512Mb CF card, and I've never filled it. but hey, I can transport other files on it too.

I know a number of other people that have the Canon Powershot A-series, and they all love 'em.

OOPS!!!

Bad info on my Kodak DX7630... It doesn't do TIF or RAW. You have a choice between Standard and Fine JPG compression along with the MP choices 6.1, 5.4, 4.0, 3.1, 1.7.

Update: The latch that holds the battery firm against the contacts threw its spring, then I broke the latch trying to fix it. It still works. If I were ever to try and change a full memory card, I'd have to reset the date and time. The battery and the memory card are in the same compartment. Usually the battery would run out before the 512MB memory card would fill up.
