i have been thinking bout getting a mac. Not to replace my windows machine. A mac would never be able to do that but i like os x
I've been thinking about making the switch as well, but don't really have the money at the moment. :x
As for games, while the really top of the line games aren't made for Macs, there are still quite a few to choose from. Check out this page (http://guide.apple.com/uscategories/games_us.lasso).

macs are also pretty expensive. That is another set back to a mac.

I know there arent much games for the mac! wonder why they are excellent graphics machines. I know that unreal tourney and warcraft III are avail for mac just those 2 games alone are cool! but its not worth the 4gs to get one!
I do like osX jaguar I have it loaded on an older g3 w/ 320 megs or ram here at the school. Beautiful OS (pretty BSD) i like that I can secure shell it and get mp3s off of it from home.

yes they are a little pricy, but they are worth the money. they are very good stable machines, and they look good, and just overall a great machine. As for the games you can get a lot of games for it you just have to look in the right place. As for the games that have no mac side, there is always virtural pc and softwindows to save the day with games such as UO......I have been using the mac for 12+ years, and currently own a faltpanel LCD iMac.......and i will never go windows.
I say spend the money and get the mac, you will not be dissapointed

How does Jaguar run on a G3? Which model? I guess part of what interests me on the Macs is all of the cool stuff on the G4. However, like most of you, my 2.4ghz P4 is doing everything I need it to. I don't NEED a Mac for anything that I know of, but I sure want one. If I get one, it will be on my wi-fi network with the XP Desktop and Laptop.

its an old beige powerpc g3.
I just aquired a g4 (The last user kept saying that it was locking up) (currently in my office) dual processor 450 mhz (i believe i am at home and trying to remember...) I loaded jaguar on it. runs good. I also just downloaded jedi knight II. Looks excellent! I am impressed they need more games for the mac.
(this is a new G4 case) not the beige one
384 megs of ram
Ati Radeon 32meg AGP mac version
dual g4 processor
older g3 (blue 17 inch monster head looking monitor)
LOL 8 gig HD
I am thinking of buying it from the school.. No one wants the thing around there! They all want a Dell.
I love the way that game looks on it!!!

Yep, I think you are trippin'. I didn't say anything about how my PC was better than a Mac because it has a 2.4Ghz CPU, I said that there wasn't anything that I absolutely need a Mac for and my XP equipped PC is working just fine. I would just like a dual CPU G4 because they interest me. However, just because I like/want something doesn't make it feasible to spend $3K + on a computer that I think is cool. Mortgage payments and the like get first priority. The real world is an evil place.

Macs aren't expensive. I think you should get a PowerMac G4 w/ this:
Dual 1.42GHz PowerPC G4
2MB L3 cache/processor
2.0GB DDR333 SDRAM
120GB Ultra ATA/100
SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium
128MB DDR video memory
FireWire 800
56K internal modem
Bluetooth Included
for only $3,799.00.
I have the same thing but you have to get a display.
I got the 23" flat panel display which costs an additional $1,999.00.
You can get a 17" flat panel for $699.00.
Or if you have a tighter budget, hehehe, get the iBook for $999.00. It is a slow notebook but if the bidget fits it that'll have to do.
The only thing w/ Macs is that video games come out on the Windows platform way before the Mac, so if you are a gamer, don't throw away your PC. Trust me, I know, I work in the video game department.

MACS SUCK ASS FOR GAMES. if you are saying that jedi knight 2 looks good on a mac i am not surprised. Jedi Knight 2 runs on the quake3 engine therefore graphics look like you died and went to 4 years ago. don't get me wrong, macs are great for the work environment and for web surfing and stuff but they cannot handle graphics like a PC can. the only mac I would say that could handle a modern game would be a 4000 dollar G5 with the 2ghz processor. and you can buy an equivalent PC for like 500 bucks. and if you r saying that $3800 is a good price you need to stop smoking the crack-cocaine.

I bet you dollars to doughnuts you barely have any experience playing games on a Mac.

Go linux, you can get Wine, witch runs most windows programs, and they run lots and lots of games. And lots of games are made for it, its free, you dont have to go and buy all new stuff, and Open source, witch means many many apps that you want
