Ok, i was one of those fr33ks that slep'd over night to get my PS2 when they launched.

Now, i bough "Signs" (DVD). I never had an issue with my PS2 playing DVD's before. Well, this movie will not play. I even try "diagnostics" ON - and still nothing. "Disk Error" . Although the disk playes fine in my PC.

I rent newer DVD's and have the same issue.. My older DVD's like... Office Space.. ect.. play just fine.

Issue is: my buddy (a clan member) has the same Rev of firmware and the same part# of "Signs".. and his works fine...

Anyways, does anybody know were i can d/l a new FirmWare rev.. or update this thing some how? I have already tried cleaning the lense, diag mode... hmm...

The only thing i can see, is that movie once poped into a PC, it tries to load this..playback software-- that maybe the PS2 doesn't understand.. but then why would my friends work?

Thanks.

i feall all n00bish inside...

Your PS2 may be going be starting to die.

Foe me, Thank god for EB's 1 yr warranty. My First PS2 came the unfortinuate victim of a t-storm, relaced it, and the 2nd one at times just kept giving me "Disk Read Errors" right before my warranty expired, I replaced it, and since then (June 2002) it has never done that again.

I had a similar problem with my first PS2 when I tried to watch Akira. I looked around and got lots of opinions. What eventually seemed to work was playing the DVD a few times at regular speed on a regular dvd player. The theory was that the laser from the device playing the DVD would acutaly make "grooves" in it that made it easier for the cheap ass laser in the PS2 to read your disk. I don't know if that's even possible, but I tried it anyways and I was eventually able to get my Akira disk to play in my PS2.
