having problems with counter-strike 1.6

i just downloaded steam which then installs counter strike 1.6 and whenever i try to start up counter strike it makes my screen flicker really fast. Does anyone know how to fix this.

yeah it is just a beta though. That is probably why i am having so much problems with it. you have to download steam first though and then it downloads 1.6. You can get more info at www.counter-strike.net (http://www.counter-strike.net)
