Not sure if this is the right thread to post this in, but...

I got my sound activated cold cathode and I wanted the mount the control thing on a drive cover. During the cutting of the drive cover I seem to have not masked part well enough and the dremel slipped and I made a little scratch. Anyone know of any way that i can polish it or hide it, or if there is a dremel bit that can polish it or anything?

p.s. The whole thing turned out fine and it works now, just some scratches.

You can sand the whole cover down and paint it.

it's bare polished aluminum though, so I don't think i'd be able to paint it...

If its polished you would need to sand it down. Take it to about 600 grit. Then use a metal polish compound to polish it again. If you have access to a buffing wheel great if not you can still do it it will just take a little elbow grease. Go to a local car or bike shop they will have metal polish you could use.

It's a Lian-Li case, so when I look at it closely I can see the vertical lines where it was either sanded or polished that way. Wouldn't sanding it and polishing it make it too shiny and not be the same texture as the other parts?

What I may also do, is wait until i buy one of those temperature monitors and use the drive cover that it replaces and mask it really good and try again. I know my biggest error was poor planning, and i've heard Yoshi say the most important part is planning.

yeah its not polished it is brushed..... Its very hard to duplicate the brushed effect that the rest of the case has. It is also has a clear coat over the metal.... making it even harder. Do you still have one of the other covers? You could use it or try to blend the brushed look from the cover to the case.
A lightly abrasive wheel is what they use for giving it that brushed look.

It wil be hard to duplicate without the proper tools.

The scratches aren't noticeable until you are about 1-2 ft infront of it, so I guess i'll wait until i have another cover to use and be sure to plan it all out and do it right this next time.

you could always polish the whole thing. I have been thinking about doing that to the Lian Li that I am purchasing soon. I think a mirror shine would just look awesome.
