I'm not sure if anyone has done it yet but I would like to put a 4-port router into one of my 5 1/4 bays but I'm not sure where to start. I was thinkin maybe take apart an old cd-rom and use the case but I'm pretty new to the custom mod stuff. I'm not sure where to put it either considering all my bays are being used but thats beside the point. If I had one I might take out my HardCano and put it there. Anyways, I would like to see this mod and I know if anyone can do it Yoshi can. Thanks guys

My only concern would be the extra heat that most small hub/switches generate.

in the drive bay? I think you will want that in the back of the case.

I stuck an 8 port switch in the back of my case with no problems. The linksys switches are all on one circuitboard, so no heat worries there.

Your router has a processor though, I know mine gets a bit hot. You will need to manage the cooling.

good case airflow will disipate that heat if its in your case. in the drive bay it wont unless you put some kind of fan there.

i dont know about the drive bay.. that would make ALOT of ugly wire clutter.

I Dont think the ports will look good in the front.

the heat is ur main problem....you may have to somehow add xtra fans....

so it comes down to cooling....

I have seen a four port switch on a single PCI card. We were considering them for a mobile game server we are building. Reduces the load one more item, but I can't remember who had it. Try Thinkgeek or TigerDirect.

Of course Now I found it, check out this link.

But you could still buy a single port router since they are cheaper and mount that in a drive bay. I would think that some of the same info that was used in building the teddy borg and the various drive bay mods would suffice. Basically, save a blanking plate, dremel it out for the two jacks, mount the board in the bay and pass power out through the back, if needed otherwise snitch the power from the internal PS. I agree with others you would really wan this in the back.

I'm planning on doing that. I'm going to put the bulk of the unit in a drive bay, but I'm going to move the ports to the back of the computer hiding the wires. ONceI get around to it I'll post some Pics

well, i use the PCI 4-port hub card (http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/accessories/5ad1/) from thingeek (http://www.thinkgeek.com) and it works great as a hub. I'm not sure if you could set up the firmware that is reguarly found within your router to work with the card though. Maybe worth a shot though

Okey Dokey has the idea , that's the best hub i've seen installed in a pc good job.. one thing i'd change.. get a new bay cover and just drill small holes in it and use fibre optics instead of trying to cut holes for the size of the leds this will look much cooler , and maybe swap them for some bloooo ones lol.. --Bikr
