i have received a few requests for another Cheap and Easy Mod Contest, and i would love for it to happen but the past few times there was not enough entries to make it interesting.
so here's the deal: i think more more time needs to be between each contest (like 3 months) to allow interested members to get a mod together.
therefor, i was thinking of restarting the contest in January 2007.
what a great way to start off the new year on Yoshi's Forums!!! :9
so if you want to enter, you have from now until the end of the year to get a mod and all the info together.
READ THE RULES OF THE CONTEST HERE. (http://yoshi.us/forums/showthread.php?p=207217#post207217)
what do you guys think? would you like to restart this contest?

I know that this whole thing has gone into a coma (until January 07) and I'm sure we all have ideas.
I'll start of the list of suggestions.
1.) a monthly theme like cases, controlers, cooling, etc...
2.) at least two levels of contests, newbs and experenced.
3.) give winners an icon saying something along the lines of "January 07 mod contest winner" And when i say icon, i mean like what moderators and contributors have.

Digi im glad we'r going to start it back up but there are a few things i think need changing. First is time, i think it needs to be more than "one weekend" the reality is most mods WORTH doing take more man hours than 48 hours (which would mean working those 2 days straight) and more than 50$. I'm not saying it can't be done im just sayin its a little rough. How about a total of something like 50 man hours and 100$? That gives a bit more fluctuation and a better opportunity to have more join in. Just a suggestion take it or throw it in the trasht up to you.

The idea behind the short time and low price was to get people involved and keep it from being a 'money spent' popularity contest. If we are going to go to a quarterly contest, I say we raise it also. Or perhaps we need to just run two contests quarterly, one cheap and easy and one with a higher pricetag for the veterans. We might also want to think about eliminatting the "only one entry" rule since some of us might want to do a couple of cheaper mods.

can we create groups? if so i say we create a modding group INVITE ONLY. we use past projects to decide of the member should be in the group, then within the group we can have the "larger" contests and the cheap and easy mod contest can be ran through out all of the forums. For me it is almost hard to do a mod in two days, with 50$ because i just dont have anything like that to do. Just a thought.

I agree with making the contest quarterly, and I agree that there should be more than one category. Instead of allowing more than one entry per member, perhaps one entry per category would be better? If this takes off you could potentially have to split each "price and time" category into sections like case, peripheral, internal drives, etc.

all good suggestions!!! thx guys :)
i like the idea of two contest.. cheap and easy and more advanced mods.
i agree with changing of one entry per person to per catagory so people can work in groups if they want to.
also, a cool graphic will be made for past and future winners.
i'll work out the details of the contests with yoshi and we'll get a new set of rules posted soon.
if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know before we get the contests under way..

So what if I modded the design of my website? Does that qualify as a cheep and easy mod? ;)
Oh, I moded my fingernails - does that count? What, cuting them is not considered a mod? Darn.
LOL :D

well.. yoshi and i haven't had a chance to make up rules for a more advanced modding contest, so for now, we'll start up the Cheap and Easy Mod Contest and see how that goes. if people are actually show interest in entering contests, then we'll see about starting more :)
