I was wondering if anyone else had the problem with their fans, particularly their mobo fans, building up with dust and then making a sort of moaning noise when the system is first fired up? I have a noisy bedroom computer so I shut it down at night, and whenever I turn it on, a fan in there buzzes excessively for a period of time. I have tracked it down to the fan I have on my north bridge. Dust gets in there and affects the operation of the fan. I blow it out with canned air once every few weeks which solves the problem untill more dust gets in there and I do it all over again. I consider it only a minor annoyance, but it can't be good for that fan to be stressing like that at start up. I also don't want do just disconnect it. So I ask you, is there anything else I can do? does anyone else have this problem? is there an anti-dust product I can use to keep dust from building up in my system?

Try a different fan for a few weeks if you can and see if that helps, try vacuuming your room to lower the dust population.

do those affect air flow much Burke?
my CPU HS has very fine fine (<.1'' spacing) copper fins that tend to collect dust rather well. Having only a standard 60mm fan on it i'm a bit hesitant to restrict air flow. though cleaning the HS with a dust buster every 3 months gets old.

i have the same problem. my HSF gets clogged up all the time. like [GF]Burke said, get that dust filter but don't put it on the HSF itself, put it on your case intake fans. that should cut down on dust inside the case.

you mean dont use vacuum in your case right? Definately vaccum your your room, frequently. I hit my floor with vacuum about twice a week If you can get a air filter for your room. Your lungs will thank you for that also.

Using old pantyhose behind front bezel and in front of any intake fans can also help.

those filters are sweet, I'm ordering some right now. I'm going to put them on the case fans, and see how that works. I'm using a monster zalman sink/fan and I get that problem all the time. It turns very slowly, so dust and fluff get in there and mess with my brain on a silent day ;) The fan filters seem like the best solution to your problem!
