hi, i dont know what the username or password for my router is, its a zyxel prestige 652h-31, ive tried all the defaults, admin, 1234 etc.. none have worked. I tried xscan i think i got the password through scanning snmp-info, it said "Found snmp-password: ******". Is there any way to detect the username, ive looked for a remote brute force username cracker but cant find one. i dont know much about this stuff just what ive learned myself.
thanks.

If you could log in to the router then alot of them have an option to save the settings and then after you hard restart it you can load the saved settings from file. What settings did you need someone else to set up for you? If its always on broadband cable then you just plug it in and go. If its dsl you just enter your isp's internet username and password (almost always different then email and password) If there are any other settings that you need to enter they would be provided from your ISP. static ip etc. Don't forget to change the default user name and password and set up the encryption for your wireless network.

reset the router. turn it around youll see a spot that says RESET and itll have a little hole, get a paper clip and press it for 5 seconds . you should know if you have dsl or cable

use Look@Lan or Cain and Able cause with those two programs i can help you get the name back if you absolutely cant just reset this damn hting.

I mean just reset it and make a new pass and login name...it wont kill you...i dont see why you have to have these settings...

nvm i read that you said you screwed it up...still my point is that you have people who can help you here so listen to em or be left without a solution

im not trying to critisize anyone or their knowledge, i just need to get into my router, basically i cant reset it because i don't know the configuration, last time i reset it, it screwed up and the isp would tell me the settings and i had to get an engineer round which cost a lot of money. therefore if i cant get the username and pass, (which isnt the default, i looked throught he manual, admin 1234) i thought if i could get the configuration i could then reset it and set it to what it was like before.

Theres not much we can do man, and its not hard to setup a router.

Who makes the router? What model?

You also should know if your DSL or Cable.

If your cable there is nothing for you to do, if your DSL all you have to do is enter the pppoe auth settings.

Is this a modem/router combo from your ISP? If it is there really isnt much we can do.

zyxel 652h-31, ive been looking around my isp's site (BT) and my routers user guide and i think ive got some of the settings.
VPI number: 0
VCI number: 38
Authentication: CHAP
Modulation: G.DMT
Encapsulation: PPP over ATM (PPPoA)
Virtual Circuit Multiplexing (VC-MUX)
would, the pppoe authorization settings basically be an account username and password? if im making sense.

TMG

Right about the pppoe. So this is a business ADSL modem/switch then. Thats why you had to have a tech configure it.

yep

TMG

Therefore we cant really help you. From the business DSL (covad) that I have used it needs to be configured provider side, not client side.
