I found this port on a Mac motherboard, and was hoping someone could identify it. It is a little biggger than a SATA port:

Any ideas?

I can't identify it by sight, but it might help to tell us (if you know) the model of Mac that board was pulled from. Considering I cannot recollect having seen anything like that before, though, my bet is that it's something proprietary to Apple.

I found it in an old red iMac, as well as an iMac G5.

The only things I can think of are a diagnostic port or perhaps some port used at the factory for flashing OpenFirmware. Chances are, it's probably useless.

at first glance it looks like a portable optical drive connector, the one used in notebooks, laptops, and tablets... i might be able to confirm if i ever actually unpack my stuff... have a portable optical -> mini IDE converter in this junk somewhere.
-- edit --
some rushed googling kind of confirms, some results on google mention the slim optical drive connector might be 50 pin ATA, and your port has 50 pins, and looks similar.

That would make sense. Thanks!
