I would like to monitor all traffic accross my network. Here is are the things I need to do.
60+ users connected to 48 port switches in central server room.

1. Bandwidth being used (LIVE monitoring).
2. Broken down by each computer on the network.
3. Each computer further broken down by IP it is connecting to, ports used and application.

Additional things I would like to do.
1. Be able to limit each users bandwidth individually. So I can allow certain users to have more bandwidth than others.
2. Rate control (bandwidth control) WAN, but not limit LAN rate. Or impose limits on WAN access individually from LAN access.

I'm kinda shocked that there havn't been any takers so far.

I don't know how to do that kind of monitoring the closest I can think of is using a packet sniffer and archiving the traffic but that would take tonns of drive space with your ammount of traffic.

Maybe a Google on Bandwidth Shaping, Dataflow and Packet Sniffing could turn up some leads but I really need to start studying again.

I had a smoothwall box running on my network for a while that would do pretty much all of that. You could even tell which computers were sending which types of packets and how much. It is a base linux install that has numerous plugins. It pretty much will work as a proxy server. Best of all it's free.
