If i buy a usb to ethernet adaptor then plug my printer into my router, will it work as a network printer.

No, especially because the adapter you're thinking of would be for the computer end of the USB plug, and because the printer is not a USB host and has no concept of TCP/IP.
However...you can purchase a basic print server and use that, i.e. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833135209.
I have a question though...are you looking at this merely so the printer is accessible to more than one computer, or do you want to physically relocate it away from the computer? If you're just trying to share it, you might as well just use Windows File/Printer Sharing and share it.

usb to Ethernet is a male usb connection (not sure it that is A or B) which plugs into your computer, and provides another ethernet port to your computer.
I think you are thinking the other way around.
