As you can see from my sig I got an ASUS A7V333 mobo and an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. Im thinking of overclocking for fun but im scared of blowing out my system. My CPU runs hot as it is so I need a better CPU fan first(any suggestions?).

My question is: what is the big deal about unlocking the CPU? I assume this refers to being able to change the multiplier which I can already do in my BIOS. So 1) why is mine already unlocked and 2) which is better to change to overclock-> FSB or CPU?

are u sure its unlocked?? on most mb u can change the cpu X but it will not stick in the bootup..unless u bought it "unlocked" its not... as 4 the fsb and cpu X which is better well its all about ur personal prefence.. if u change the fsb it will cause more stress on ur hardware such as cpu, mem, pci bus. if u just change the cpu X then ur just stressing the cpu.. there are points in the fsb that level out. i forgot most of them but 100, 133, and 166 are the ones i rember off the top of my head. when i say this that means that if u have a stock 133 fsb computer and u run it at 166 the pci buss and AGP buss will run the same as at 133
33mhz for pci and 65mhz* for AGP (* i think thats right..around that area) but it will stress ur mem if u have ddr 266 but if u had ddr 300 or 333 u would be ok. there is still a stress on ur cpu but it should handel it if u have good cooling ah cooling i run a vantec CCK-6035D they dont make that any more now its the CCK-6040. but on mine i burned up the fan so i made a addaptor that will let u mount a 80mm fan on it and im running that fan at 17v dont know what the rpm is but i do know the cfm is round 74.. u can buy these mounts on the net but i wanted to save money "8bucks not much but thats 2 packs of smokes" i will look up later and find out where u can get these addaptors at.. another good hs is the thermaltake Volcano 9 never use one but the specs on it looks REALY good.. hope this answered ur questions if not ask again

i am using a thermaltake Volcano 9 on my xp 2000 with artic silver 3
and it dropped my cpu temp by 10 degrees C with fan at 3800rpms.
paid $25 with shipping definitely worth the price.

12.5only way to overclock the 2000 is by fsb make sure your ram can handle higher fsb

Also, your CPU may not be running hot. If you are reading the temperatures from the BIOS they may not be accurate. BIOS temperatures haven't been accurate for years. Download motherboard monitor and look up your motherboard on their website to find out what sensors you want to set to check the real temperature of your CPU.

you take the +5 v from a molex .....
k u must find the -12v on ur bus inside of ur psu
u also can take the +12v from molex and -12 from psu to get 24v
my fan could not handel 24v so i used the 17v insted
any questions??
