I hope this isn't considered spam, but I personally have always gone with Asus, as a recommendation for a motherboard.

although as much as they can get onboard is always best I think, cept for video and sound, I always do those separate. I suppose with sound its not as big of a deal, but as I found out lately with my 5.1 surround sound speakers, onboard 6 channel audio on most mobo's, lacks the microphone jack when connected to 5.1 channel audio, and I don't think any support 6.1 or 7.1 audio, so anymore I go with that separate, but I'm still a big Asus fan regardless.

which brings me to an issue I've been having, since i'm using Asus onboard 6 channel sound, I don't have a microphone jack on my PC, but I have to do an audio presentation coming up using audacity in mp3 format for my other class this semester.

so I thought about going with one of these webcam+audio webcam deals, or a webcam and USB headset separate, I haven't decided which to go with yet, any particular suggestions?

Thing I don't like about USB mic's though, the audio output wants to switch to the headset's single channel audio, instead of thru the 5.1 surround sound speaker system. If they could figure out a way of putting a microphone only thru USB, without speakers, that connect to your head somehow, that would be ideal :) cuz I don't like them external mic's you put on the LCD, I like 'em connected to my head, but without the speaker. I like the small ones that wrap around yer ear, not the back of your head. I'd rather have it wrap around the top of my head then the bottom, but would prefer the kind that wrap around the ear and stay in place when u move around.

I've got a mic on a stand and if you set it up right then you need nothing more.

Check the front panel connection pins on the motherboard, there might be a mic set there you can use.
