Hello everyone,

Have a question with my new motherboard. I just bought the KD-7 RAID motherboard and wanted to run 4 separate IDE channels as opposed to running raid and I heard this was possible but when I plug anything into the raid connectors, they are not recognized.

I have updated the bios and checked the raid software but there is nothing there to "disable" or "run independently" as an option.

First is this possible and if so, does anybody know how?

I have checked the manual but that doesn't show anything and have searched google but have come up with nothing.

Hello,

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. Those extra two controllers are desinged to run RAID ONLY!!! If you connect any other IDE device besides a Hard Drive to these controllers it will not recognize it. Here is the reason:

In order for anything to be detected at all you need to create an array using the BIOS for the RAID set. Of course an Array cannot be made with a CD-ROM, CD-RW, etc.

Hope I was able to help,

Lance

oh damn.. speaking of raid lol and that team RTFM.. I should have read the manual the freakin manual w/ this.. anyways me bein a dumbass .. we have 5 dell Powervault rack mounted 770s and I took the front bezel off and seen that it has a raid system.. of course having experience w/ other devices I pulled the HD (hot swapped it) and it stayed up being RAID 5 but after i put it back. I started getting error message on the console. Eventually fixed it by taking it all apart and seeing inside the cover of the server that it said.. RAID.. and number 3 said something like drivers are not hot swap. BTW I fixed it by lol removing the battery all the drives, memory, processor, etc.. put all back together, and it booted fine and well lets see if it survives the weekend.. (whew lucky we have not put data on this one!)
