I'm not sure if this section was supposed to be dedicated to only computers... but does anyone know much about what can be done to a gamecube? I'm deciding on getting a console but I dont really like xbox much and my brother has ps2 so i dont want ps2. Gamecube is nice looking and has some pretty cool games (I think), but more than gaming what could be done to a gamecube, mod wise? It doesn't even have a hard-drive :(. What kind of mods or hacks have been done to the gamecube?

Xbox has the best modding cause you can have a hard drive on it so you could burn/put games(anyuthing but PS2 and gamecube), DVDs on to the hard drive and a bunch of stuff. Anyways its got the best online play, Xbox Live(xbconnect)

U could mod it so you could see the HD spinning. Also Its a side effect of Modding an Xbox, you mod an Xbox then you can burn stuff onto the HD.

You can't do much other than play games on the GameCube, and Nintendo has made one hard nut to crack! :P
There are no modchips out there, and I don't belive that they'll come up.

But don't worry there are a few things you can do.

GameCube Linux - http://www.gc-linux.org/
From the same gusy who brought us Xbox Linux, its still alpha, but they're getting forward little by little ;)

WarpPipe - http://www.warppipe.com/
With this baby you can play online in LAN supported games (But only games that it support, it currently supports 3 games, but those are all good games.)

There might a few other things around, but those are the 2 I know of, and the first one has great potental.

Yea, if you're looking to buy a console for the sake of modding, go with the Xbox. It's got so many features that are friendly for us modders. As for the GC, what you can do is limited. You can rip games to an computer and play them streaming over the net.

Dont discourage people from modding the gamecube the whole point of modding is getting results that no one else has achieved. Its stupid to tell someone to buy an xbox to mod just because its easy, plus gamecubes are really cheap right now and I would love to see if someone could get a hard drive in one.

Well, I have a Gamegube also. I got this great game and then guess what? My brother broke it. Yeah, it suks. So I spent 3 hours tring to find out to tranfer my games to a computer so it wouldn't be a total waste of money, and then bad news hit me liek a 2 by 4. Gamecube disks aren't cd's, dvd's or any other commonly used disk. So the only way to rip them is to hook up the disk drive in the gamecube to a computer. Also to open it, you need a special screw driver, I think it's called a gamebit or something like that. About 15 bucks I think. Also if you want to do a paint job, use the new paint for plastic, heard it works really well.
That's my two cents,
mikael

YOU can't rip games, but some "special" people can, you can d/l GC games and play them on GC. you have to have an ethernet adapter and PSO. you use a "magic" program and "upload" your games to ur GC. using PSO you computer acts has the pso server, and you can upload.

suprnova.org used to have the files and games, not sure if they still do

I thought I saw somewhere that to make a gamecube "import ready" it was a simple 2 wire sodder 5 wires if you want the LED to change with the Region

you dont need to do that to play imported games go to ebay or whatever and search for a Freeloader Disc that makes it easier to play imported games. Unless you like to sodder.

I have a friend working on a wireless 'on' button for the gamecube built into a controller. I'll post later if it works or not.

Edit: He finished it. What he did was bought a garage door opener remote/receiver and put the chip to the remote under the gamecubes controller chip and drilled a hole in the casing and put in a button from radio shack or something. Then he wired a battery to the gamecube's power supply so that when he pushed the button the battery would start up the gamecube. I personally haven't seen it, but he told me that it works and that this was how he made it.

I wouldn't try this at home if I were you though unless you really want to. He might have left some details out, so it might seriously mess up your gamecube.

Yes it is possible to hook your nintend gamecube up to lan with friends over the internet what you need is a gamecube with a broadband adapter and it hooks up to your computer and you download a program that is called Warp pipe. Now this is not like PSO (phantasy star online) you use warp pipe to lan for games such as mario kart double dash kirby's air ride and 1080 avalanche are the three possible ones right now. If you want this program download it at
