I just wanted to post my sucess story of my Athlon... When I built my computer in April, I put a Athlon 1600. It was set on the default and it ended up with a clockspeed of 1 GHz instead of what it should have been, 1.4 GHz. I lived with it until a week or so ago and sort of ignored it. Recently I went into the BIOS and played around and bumped it up to 1.4 GHz - it's true speed. I technically didn't overclock, but I got it running a bit faster. Though it runs a bit hotter, I noticed a good deal of preformance in things like rendering, and in PhotoShop and stuff.

That's my little sucess story of my Athlon 1600 and putting it to its true speed :D

going that long with out the top end pushed up would have made me go crazy... but u can say that it was cheaper than up grading ur chip.. i think i will hve to do that on my next upgrade... set is slower than what it was intended for then 6months later put it to stock.....what am i saying no i wont but its a good ideal

That's exactly what happened to me when I built my rig. Same chip, same problem. What you need to do is unclock your computer and set you front side bus to 133 instead of 100! Trust me, you'll like that better. :D (and it should run a little cooler)

speaking of the 1600+, they are 45 bucks at newegg...thats the sale price, dont know how long that will last :)

Thats a great deal. I have built a few computers that set to 1 ghz by mistake. Its a simple fix, just set it to 133 and all will be well.

They should have it so when the BIOS detecs an XP to set it to 133 default. But to heck with 133, I run 150 8), heck I actually hate 133, too slow!

I feel the drag when I have to work on one of my other rigs, a 1Ghz Duron at 1.15Ghz.

When you install a new processor or take your old out and put it back in, it will always start up in a slower clock speed than it is made for. It a safety feature and all u have to do is then go in and change it.

Also the best thing to do it always go in on a new installation and make sure all the BIOS setting are correct with speed and front side bus is the correct number for your Mobo and processor.

well, my mobo has a jumper for 100/133 and I would go into the bios of a new system to check everything out/change settings.

thts becuase your mobo set your front side bus at its default of 100. now that its at 133 its your cpu's defualt speed.

you want more heat? try running an 1800+ tbred at over 2100mhz. thats a 600mhz overclock.. on air cooling... hot stuff.
