howdy all, warm up your brains and gimme some ideas here. I'm looking to build a biohazard themed case, but can't come up with many ideas for it aside from the simple (biohazard fan grills, case badge, etc.) any ideas would be much appreciated, but i'm new to the art of modding so nothing to complex please.

you have a picture of what case you're gonna use?

Paint it toxic green with slime. Cut a hole in the top of the case and make it look at a bubbling drum with green slime spewing out (you can get the green slime from the toy store).

I would've stuck it in a 50 gallon hazardous waste drum (without the waste of course).

overthetop thats a great idea. The hole in the top would be a perfect place for a 90mm blowhole.Add the 55 gal drum replica molded in and slighty canted with a few rust holes sticking out the top of the case ozzing the green slime.

Add one of those Sunbeam round green CCL lamps and a UV one that comes on there 80mm fans (86 the fans) in the drum and it would give off that green radioactive glow and permeate all around the drum and illumnate the green slime.

lol Im gettin to old for the otherwise but I may just borrow that Toxic idea for a Chieftec® blue dragon I have sittin around collecting dust.

A buddy of mine owns an electrical company and a couple of years ago I sprayed all his company vehicles in Dupont® Traffic Signal Green.Let me tell you these vans can be seen two miles away and its the green slime perfect match all the way.Im sure there's plenty of that obnoxious color still on the shelf

Wouldn't the green dye cause everything the fog touched to turn green.
Just a thought.

kick ass ideas, you all rock. Haven't decided yet what case I'm gonna use, but I have style xp and other crap running biohazard themes for the desktop, and damn old hp stock case is pissing me off, so just decided to kick the idea out there to see if anyone could help me with ideas.

next question: any1 know if I can rip the guts out of this (barely) hp computer and put it into a new case? Just from looking everything seems to be pretty standard, but I'm not sure. any1 tried anything like this? If not guess I'll just have to get around to building my new comp, but I'm ever so poor at the moment :(

Most of the Computers built by Compaq®, HP®, Dell® have proprietary hardware and cant be changed over.

I would go ahead and buy the case (withPSU) and get started on the sanding painting etc. This will give you plenty of time to sweetn and tweak it out exactly the way you want it.

If your HP® is fairly new with a fast procesor, ram, etc. You could move that over along with all the drives etc.But a new mobo,PSU is a must.

One piece at a time starting with the case and ending with Ram & Processor as these prices drop almost every day the as new and faster stuff hits the retailers shelves.

ooooooh...... purty.........

okay, gonna paint case black and cut a window into the side of it in the shape of a biohazard symbol, with translucent molding around window with green lights inside the molding. Here's a pic of the molding I'm gonna get with the lights in it.
http://www.pcmods.com/_images/products/Clearmolding-EL(320).jpg

so where can I get one of those fog machines to put in the top? definetly think that would be something I'd wanna try.

The window & molding ideas are kool but the fog machine is really a bad one. Point is the solution used to make the "fog" is oil based & it can make everything sticky, not to mention the fact they get very hot & are LOUD!

Maybe look into using dry ice on occasion just for presentation sake ;) Another Idea would be to have a "panic button" to shut down with & maybe have a light flashing "red" (maybe have it mounted on top inside a cage) with a horn going off as you shut down (just like if a meltdown is happening).

Or maybe this would be kool?

Just think a little different then just the biohazard...think DEFCON.

Good luck!

hrmmm.... defcon would look good, I'll definetly consider it.

finally picked a case
http://www.dealsonic.com/ahexatxmidto.html

26.50 with shipping. I wanna go with something cheap, as this is my first major mod.

Think I'll drop the fog machine idea, since you all seem so vehemently against it, lol. As I'm a modding newbie, I have a couple of quick questions for any1 who will answer them.

How many internal lights (EL wire, cold cathode, etc.) can be wired into one comp.?
where can i get said lights for decent price?
how would I go about the light and horn mentioned in the previous post to go off at the comps shutdown?

as many as your PSU (powersupplyunit) can hold.

i like.

Dude i told u cookiemonster, the fogger is mounted at the top and the fog comes out and disapates into the air (*heat rises*) and u don't get just any dye they sell special dye on the net that just looks green. I think the idea would look awesome.

I wonder if they make glow in the dark fog hehe :P

prolly do.

get some uv senstive stuff in it.
does that work ?

The horn wouldn't be hard, just change the shut down windows wav file in the sound scheme. I'll have a look around for an appropriate horn sound for ya ;).

The light I'm not too sure but there has to be someone here that would have a feasible idea, I know it can be done...Burke? Yoshi? Anyone?

is there any way to set up a program to do that. (light that is)

like when start up it powers it, and shutdown powers it...only way i cna see...besides a switch :D

still no clue on the startup shutdown siren. Anyone know how to change startup shut down screens in XP? I wanna put in some sort of biohazard warning sign for the startup, and change the shutdown to a meltdown screen to go along with the light and siren.

Dude, install linux. It has skins and you don't need any third party programs to apply them.

Yeah, I know, you can't run your programs.. blah, blah, blah. I've been using linux and have found that for everything in windows, there is a free and equal counterpart in linux. As for games, just use wine to run them. You could also dual boot.

Ok, quick poll. What would look better in a biohazard case, green cold cathodes, or blacklight with green UV sensitive cables and fans and such? the cold cathodes would be brighter, but the blacklight might look more toxic. any opinions?

Blacklight, no question.

Both! I have multiple CCFLs and depending how I want my case to look I just hit the switches

okay, inspiration struck so I just had to post this to get some feedback on what ppl thought of the idea. (sidenote: it may be some time before this case gets built. The computer is being built into a pretty acrylic case so parts aren't just lyin around, then I'm gonna take my damn sweet time building the biohazard case.)

all you peeps have seen the aquarium side panels right? What about making the same basic thing, except fill it with water and green uv reactive dye, and only fill it about halfway? That would be kind of like some sort of biohazardous gunk inside the case. Feedback?

Sounds badass. Comic effect....leave the fish it but rig them up so they'll just float at the top of the nuclear waste.

I would like to add one thing,
if you are using water in your case, it might be a good idea to add a sensor to shut down pc if there is any water leakage inside the pc.

Look for one on google, if you can't find one, let me know and i will draw one up.

hidahune

hrmm... good suggestion with the water sensor, since I will prolly be making the fish tank thingy myself, and am a little unsure as to my waterproofing skills. I'll have to check on those. I do really like the comic effect of the dead fish, think that would be pretty funny.

the UV dye can be found at most mod product sites. here's just onegreen UV dye (http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/dye-03.html)
it's usually meant for water cooling systems, but modders always gotta be lookin for new ways to use things :P

What I would do is figure out what lines (in the psu) tell it to start running more power to the mobo and when that goes hot have it activate a relay or something so the light goes on and when the power droppes it goes off. If your looking for a program you could probally rig it so when the windows os opens it triggers something (relay etc...) That would pull the power from the PSU and start sending it to the light and have the program wait for the shutdown command on the comp. My last suggestion is rewire the light into a molex connector if it dosent require too many watts and if your psu can handle it and when the PSU starts to send power to the molexes the light will auto turn on :D again these are just suggestions if you want pm me and I will see if I can set up a few drawings or explain in more detail

Opps I mis read the original post. For the turn on-off I would still look for a electrical way except I would use a delay somewhere like Mobo---on/off wire----relay----delay trigger----light That way the light would be on for say 10 seconds then flip off. you could probally get a kit from radioshack if you wanted :D
