Using A Sony Clie As A Possible Remote Control

hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of using the ir port of a pda as a remote control, i was thinkin maybe i could use my sony clie to control some stuff on my computer,

I know it is possible to use your palm as a remote control for your TV. The thing is, if you want to use it for your comp, you would need to buy an IR reciever.

TV definitely, PC....maybe. Like with those All-In-Wonder remotes. I think it'd be real hard, if it's possible, to find.

i don't know about controlling the computer with it.. but i have a program on my iPaq that uses the ir port as a remote.. but the great thing about it is that the program can learn from other ir remotes, put them facing each other.. select learn on the PDA program, select what you want the button to learn.. and just press the button on the actual remote and the PDA learns what to do when pressing that button. I would guess that the program would work with a computer, if you get the PDA to learn from the computers remote.. but you would have to buy the remote and reciever anyways, so, it might be irrelevent

Actually the All-In-Wonder remotes are RF not IR... just an FYI

this does technically work, however the ir port (on a palm at least) is very weak, as it's only designed to work with another palm about 5-6 feet away where as a remote control has a pretty strong to interact with the tv from around 25-35 feet. So if you enjoy sitting 3 feet from your tv a palm works great as a remote. Otherwise you'll need to either buy an external IR transmitter, or get a universal remote.
