With all the cute little computers that did so well in the contest, I finally got inspired to finish the first phase of my watercooled Shuttle.

Visit my LAN groups forum for my worklog (http://www.thebadlans.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000138)

Phase two will add some color, clean up some edges and probably add a window. But its at least to the point that I can show it off at LANparties.

Thanks for all the good words guys.

Hey JonR, since you are Boston based, check out the rest of our site. Just in case you are looking for some local LAN party action.

I totally will. I've been setting up small LANs in my apt, but normally thats only around 5-8 or us. We also play Halo out in Natick on Thursdays and we always get 16 people there.

hey man, you should get a slot-load IMAC DVD ROM.. like what I did for my Humidor.. probably would fit..

hey, im giong to go water cool'n also.
I have standard Chieftec case, and I was wondering if that pump/res would have enough power to cool my - CPU, FX card. (ill get the block for FX..just found it). Im making my own copper one for the CPU.

but I want it all containd .. and kept small as possible. you think that pump/rez is good?

my kit (http://www.voyeurmods.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=WC-KIT-1).it fits nicely in my TT xaser3.but i got to do some modding for my rad to
be where my bottom hdd cage.from the looks of your case im guessing it has drive rails for the 5.25" bays.which makes filling and bleeding a bay res easy.
the Hydor L20 i use is smaller than a 120mm fan and little more than twice
the width.
mt suggestion for parts:
Hydor L30 Water Pump (http://www.voyeurmods.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=WC-P-L30)
my res (http://www.voyeurmods.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=WC-RES-5)
for tubing get either 3/8" i/d with 1/8"wall
or 1/2" i/d with 1/8" wall.

While we're talking about liquid cooling, whats the best liquid to use? Not use plain old water, is its?

If you keep the system pretty clock together, this pump would work, but the pressure rise was less than 4 feet. I'm sure it could handle it, but the flow rate would be reduced.

In bigger cases like that, I think I'd lean towards the Hydor. But if you don't mind sacrificing a little performance for looks, this pump can definately do the job.

Yup, just distilled water is the best. But I usually add some Water Wetter and a small amount of bacteriacide (available at pet stores for fishtanks).

right on thanks man.
that makes since...

ya, i already have some WW sitt'n around.. (i race).

where did you get that radiator? make it?

-----------------------------------

Six: why does that pic show two blocks.. but only come with one?
that pump you suggested would be ok, but I would like one that runs off the 12v rail.. keep it all inside..

water wetter is known to stain tubes.i use distilled water($1 a gallon)
and anti freeze($6 a gallon).

Ok, here is what I want so far: please give me feedback, and tell me if im being n00bish>

FX block (http://www.highspeedpc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=HSPC&Category_Code=CoolmaticFX) 100.00
pump/rez (http://www.xoxide.com/bira.html) 60.00
UV (http://www.xoxide.com/blueuvdye.html) 10.00
make my CPU block (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23539) eg. 15.00

I just need a radiator.. tubes.. brass fittings. I can get the brass fittings and tubes at Home Dept. . I already have fans.

also, see that homeade block?, why does he have 3 fittings on there.. dont you just need 2? in-out?

over 70K PC builds.. iv never water cooled 1... its time.. MuHAHAhah

I'm the same boat. I've bulit about 100 computers or so, and I have never water cooled. I think I'm just scared

Looks like he was trying to make it symetrical, spread out the cooling better. You could pick up a "Y" fitting to merge the two return hoses easy enough.

I bought my radiator from FrozenCPU, they have quite a few to choose from.

In another project I did, I was looking for cheap cooling, so I used tranny cooler from Autozone. It cost me about $25. Heater cores are also a cheap solution. There are limitless possibilities. :D

Just remember to hoseclamp or ziptie everything. Leaks, especially with the very stinky Water Wetter, really suck.

Awesome! I have a shuttle case, maybe I'll try that when I get another computer, because my case is actually pretty cold: 25C.
