Hi everyone! I am brand new to modding (mainly a software guy, not a hardware guy) and want to put a logo into the side of my case (see below). What tools would I need to cut percision holes in the side of my panel, and what precautions should I take so as not to damage any components inside?

First off, if you are putting it on the side panel, just take the panel off and keep it away from the computer, just to be safe. then make sure you cover the panel with masking tape so if you slip with the tool you dont' make a mistake. Also when you are dun, run soap and water over the panel so you make sure you get all the metal bits off, they could damage your computer bad!

i used a dremel with a reinforced cutof disc..stronger than the others but thicker too...in some of the tight corners you may want to do it by hand, but it will go SLOW

if you are using a dremel brand, i reccomend using a #426 reinforced cut-off disc, i've used it on all my case cutting
btw...how much did you pay for that sound audigy set up?

has anyone tried a plasma cutter? they use them in auto body shops and for cutting thin metal. they did a nice job of cutting when i was in welding shop back about 12 years ago. we got one at work and will see if they will let me play with it and post if it turns out

Plasma cutters work fine. They are just to costly for most modders to have.

So are water-jets, cheaper too, try and see if your local metal shop has one. But i'm not sure if a whole panel would fit...

Water jets are great for pieces that are heat sensitive. They are very big and very expensive though. On line with an industrial laser cutting system. They require big pumps , and a large tank. They capable of cutting through some thick materials. Steel, stone, wood, plastic, etc... Steel up to 6 inches thick depending on the cutter. The ones I have seen could take very big pieces of material, they could have easily fit a 4'x8' plate on the cutting area.

I provide waterjet services... check out www.liquidthundercreations.com
I can cut the panel for you, put it sounded like you wanted to do it yourself...
BTW...
My tank handles 6'x12' sheets of anything.. I just finished a order for 2.5inch thick mild steel measuring 6x6... it weighed 2300lbs. took 9 hours to make 4 cuts..
