Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone could help me with choosing the right kind of primer/paint so that I could paint/spraypaint my PS2 and the Controllers without getting a sticky peel off coating that would be the result of a quick 5 minute cheap spraypainting job. Also, some instructions would be nice(i.e. paint amounts, etc etc). Safely taking apart both the System and Controller I don't think will be a problem though. :) Thanks in advance.

go for a vinyl/plastic dye that is available at most auto part stores. will adhere to plastic much better than spray paint. normally you would want to use a couple of light coats. you don't really want to do it in one thick coat, as it will turn out looking not so great

I cant help with choosing paint (I suck at that) But I can tell you to take the thing apart first. I would sujject you take all the components out so you are left with the plastic shell to paint without fear.

well of course i'll get it out it's shell(it's a good idea to take it apart because you don't want stuck buttons). shades307, will that need any kind of primer or can i just lightly paint on several coats until im satisfied? does it dry to a hard shell that isn't sticky/scrape off?

i don't believe that you need to use primer with the dye but let me check on another forum quick and i will post a link.

well u should u a primer .. but before that u should sand the system whit grid paper" like 100,200 or 600 would do it" so the paint would stick to it

here we go. this guy has done some really good mods, this one may not be the best but he shows how to use the vinyl dye

If you have the time, look at some of the other stuff that he has done.

the vinyl dye looks like it will work perfectly, the reason i don't want to sand it down to prime is it because i would like to keep the texture. plus, sanding down the controller evenly would be quite the pain. thanks for pointing out the vinyl paper shades, ill go pick some up and get to work!

not a problem. happy to help out a fellow modder (i guess that means i should mod something instead of just thinking about it).

I would suggest scuffing the surface first with a scoth brite pad and then use a flexible primer which is designed for use on plastics. then, you can use any kind of paint on the controller without the hassle or risk of peeling.

Hmm... I got some bad news, I went down to all the local auto parts places and none of them have yellow vinyl dye/spray paint,so does anyone know where can I buy some online maybe? or make any other reccomendations, or am I going to have to choose between black, gray, red, blue, white and beige?

never seen the stuff personally. would probably be worth a shot though. it is made for plastics so should work decently.
