I am stuck with air cooling, so I am making the best of it. My Athlon XP 1600+ is at 1.85Ghz w/ ax-7. My temps are lousy, most of the time in the 50s. What are your temps?

My Athlon xp 2200+ usually runs around 49 or 50 degrees with air cooling.

My 2100 depends on fan speed. Running at stock 1740mhz. Nothing special in this system just variable speed CPU fan controller for noise.

Not bad Yoshi. Bjr319, what heatsink do you have?

its a Thermaltake Volcano 7+, like I said nothing special.

BJR, stock v-core? Also, where did you get that heatsink. I have an ax-7, I might be getting an SLK-800 pretty soon.

Yes stock v-core, It was 6 months ago but I believe I bought it from www.monarchcomputer.com .
SLK-800 sounds like a new mercedes-benz model.:D

I have a Zalman CNPS 6000 cu on this XP1800 with FSB at 140 so a slight overclock...
It plods happily along at 38 degress normal and 46 under load.
I also have an XP 2100 with water cooling and no overclock... Runs at 25 and 32

oh well.
my plans include a SLK800 for my p4 with a Vantec Tornado 80mm.
there is an adapter for p4's that allows the use of socket a coolers.

I'm running my XP1600+ at 1.57Ghz stock voltage and my full load temp is 42-45C. i don't even know the brand of the HSF.. I bought it off ebay for $10 cause it looked like it would do well, and I'm not dissapointed for what I paid.

I have a Volcano 7+ with a 1700+ tbred and i'm getting (on medium fan speed) idle temps around 25c and full load temps of 35c (i live on the west coast and the air is always cool, that's why my temps are low)

my CPU, a 667 Celeron (it was given to me, i'd rather have had an Athlon, but can't argue with free ; ) ) overclocked to 900 MHz runs at around 89F (31.67C) with air cooling at idle.
that's about a two degree increase from when it was running at 667 MHz.

my Athlon 1800+ is running at ... 57c, which isn't bad... I'd like a better fan though... or some other choice of cooling... its just too loud.. I need to cool my M.Board too, its running moderately warm..
brianm
12-10-2002, 06:23 PM
not bad???!! 57c sucks really bad, you usually don't want anything to get that high (not over 60c but anything under 45c is good).....you must have some really bad cooling and/or heatsink
mdcomp
12-10-2002, 08:02 PM
Actually it all depends, 50c is not bad for on-die temp readings, but for non-on-die they are bad. On-die is about 10-12c more than, in-socket thermistor.

Right now mine is at 27c. It is running dual Athlon MP 2200+ with a water cooled case and a 120mm fan on the window on the side. Water cooling makes a big difference.

01-03-2003, 06:48 PM
Lets see - normally, my Athlon 1600 runs about 50c idle, 53c when its running full. I noticed if I'm like doing a scan disk or defrag over night and its on for a couple days, its a bit higher. But with the side of the case off I run about 47c idle and 51 c full. I have 1 80 mm blowing out the front, 1 80MM blowing out the back and the OEM fan that came with my chip.
I used to run about 55c/58c before I added my second fan and rounded IDE, but I'm pleased with the results of what about $20 can bring in preformance.

01-03-2003, 07:16 PM
hey minion, try having your front fan blow in, that sounds kinda warm...
minionman24
01-03-2003, 10:10 PM
Yeah it is and the case is faced toward me so even in the middle of winter I have my window open to try to keep me cool lol. Should I face the back fan out then?
bm98master
01-03-2003, 10:33 PM
yeah, the typical fan setup is for the front fans to pull air into the case while the back fans push it out. this creates more of a current so that warm air can get out and fresh cooler air can go in.

01-04-2003, 09:34 AM
I just fixed and much much better. My case temps went down 9 degrees C (38 -> 29) since I changed them around, and my CPU is down to 46 idle and 49 when its hauling away. Thanks a lot. BTW, would adding another 80 MM fan blowing out the back help more or wouldn't I see much difference?
bm98master
01-04-2003, 01:24 PM
an extra fan in the back might help, but try to keep the number of fans pointing in and out the same.
minionman24
01-04-2003, 01:55 PM
Ok thanks. I just was encoding and burning some home videos and though over-all the new temps are good with the different fan directions, when the computer was really pushed, the CPU temp was a whopping 56 C. That's really worrying me with it running that hot. But once it was done encoding, it cooled to 50.5 C and then I took the side of the case off. I think the next move for me would be getting a better fan and heat sink for my Athlon 1600 - or for that matter upgrade the chip and just get the stock fan. The one I have now is a Cyber Cool that runs about 3500 RPM and is really loud and drones. The over-all case temperature is MUCH lower than it was before, but the CPU temp is a bit discouraging.

I have 2 rear fans and a heatsink and a side panel fan, and a generic 1.2ghz athlon....I had it overclocked to 1.3ghz and was running at about 42 degrees....not a problem.....have it back down at 1.2 just too see the diffs in temps....and its 38 degrees....again, not bad from a generic heatsink....with like a little 60mm fan on it.

how do you get your processors to run so cool. Mine is usually running bout 125 degrees F. would this have anything with the fact that my house is usually around 90 degrees even with the windows open in the winter. My house is heated with wood so i can't control the temp of the house very much. I have 2 fans on the case. Is there anything that i can do to cool this down

I'm running at around 68c no load, and 78c with load. I'm running an AMD Athlon 2100+.
Can anybody reccomend a good 80mm fan for my processor that would bring my temps down alot, but is not louder than 25db?

For me it's not so much about keeping it cool as it is about keeping it quiet. (Thanks for the dynamat idea, Yoshi! It really helped cut down on the noise.) My XP2200+ runs at 50C at less than 50db, but it'll run at 40C if I want push the noise back up to about 60db. Of course, those are the temps that AsusProbe gives me. The probes I installed say it runs at about 110F at 50db, and at about 105F at 60db.
I especially like the Enermax fan controller/temp monitor from Xoxide. Not bad: for about $35, you can control 6 fans, plus monitor rpms from 2 of them, and you get 2 temp sensors.
Is it as cool as it could be? No, but I prefer to let the CPU suffer a little so I can actually *hear* the game I'm playing.

ROOM: ~25C
CPU: 53C-59C (59C after full load for an hour or more)
SYS: 36C-40C
FANS: 5 (CPU, PSU, OUT, 2 IN)
Temps gotton from motherboard sensors. I think the sys is so hot because I use NFORCE and its built in GeForce2. I will be making some changes soon, like placing the the out fan on the top instead of the back, cause it is blowing out cool air before it gets to the CPU. Im also running my fans at 5v cause im afraid of the 7v trick and 12v is too loud, soon though I will be doing a proper 7v, and use a switch to select voltage. Later I also plan on a new heatsink & fan for CPU.
EDIT: i just installed speedfan and it gives me lower temps than the program i got from my mobo manufacturer. so i restarted and checked inside bios, hmm yep 49C seems to be my idle temp and not 53C.
