yeah i heard about this to your supose to flash the bios of your cd burner to the bios of the faster one i was thinking of doing this to mine but never got around to it. So yes it is very possible but i wouldnt calle it and overclock really just an update

You really wont notice the diffrence from 48x to 52x, because the hdd has to work that fast, as well as the media you use, i havent seen 52x media out yet.....

It is only possible if there is a faster model based on the same hardware.
Flashing the Lite-ON 48X to 52X is simple.

Exactly correct, They will make different models with the same hardware and sell them at a lower speed. I OC'ed my Samsung 8X to 12X and it worked fine, But theres not really much difference. I did however notice a big difference when I got my new 48X LG... dang that thing rips!
But also beware, if the flash goes wrong, you might not be able to flash it back, so you could kill it.

i should flash my tdk 40x to the 48x version

That should work prividing they use the same hardware. Check into it before you flash it and make sure you have a copy of the origional firmware before you flash it.

one of my friends flashed his 32x tdk to the 40xtdk so im pretty sure this will work and it is not like mobo bios where i cant reflash it cause i can just reflash the cdrw

I have a LITE ON 24x, can that be OC'd? If so, to what?
wildbilly2k

probably to 32x but i dont know if i would try 40x cause it may not have the hardware capable of running at that speed

There is an easy way of finding out...
If you flash the BIOS, usually the new bios will have an identical number to the original like 44445xxx and the new bios would be 44445xxx, etc.
That is a good way to see if the hardware is identical.

What's the point. 40 - 48 or 48 - 52 x is such a small increment in speed, it's not worth it. It wouldn't be much of time saver. What, maybe a few seconds. If it was in the day, maybe 2 - 4 x would have made a difference, but CDRWs are so gosh dang fast, it really does not matter to me.

but then i couldnt say to my friends that i have a 48x instead of a 40x

Exactly....you wont notice the diffrence anyway, why risk screwing something up, that you wont notice hte diffrence, maybe 2 seconds of your normal burn time, whoop dee doo.

actually 40-48 will take about 15 seconds off and i know it will work

well if people are that impatient to risk messing up there cd burner just for a measly 15 secs....then go ahead!

my stock 40x is now at 40x and will always be at 40x.
anyone even know about 52x media?
Lem6687
01-07-2003, 06:47 PM
no thats the whole reason...there isnt much 52x media out there.....so 52x burners a really useless at the moment....neweggs got a sale on a lite on 48x for like $53, im gonna pick that up and some other stuff tommorow.

i want all red led fans but i just got some nice rounded cables from www.svcompucycle.com there nice quality too and then id like to say if you cant deal with losing any components in your system at any time you got to find a new hobby beside overclocking and modding

Some people, like my poor ass self, cant really afford to lose any components at this point in time.

Would any of you know about any firmware updates for a Sony CDRW CRX140E ? It's running at 8x4x32x right now.

How about LG Burners? How are they for overclocking?

There's no point in overclocking your cdrom a little 4X what's that going to do :?: huh!!!

You dont need 52x media, its just a different label on the cd. I have 40x blanks and I burn at 52x. Takes me 2min15sec for full cd.

I overclocked my coffeemaker, now it brews a pot of coffee in 1.328 seconds.
2 minutes 15 seconds to burn a full cd at 52x you say, not bad, considering my 24x tdk burns a full cd in just over 3 minutes.
so what you gonna do with that extra 45 -50 seconds you saved with the 52x burner? absolutly nothing, since you can do anything else with your computer when you are burning cd's thanks to burn proof technology.

like the 1st page of this thread says, a firmware upgrade may be able to do it.

I overclocked my 32x LG to 40x....
It works fine without any problems because the 40x version of my burner uses THE SAME HARDWARE......
Btw cdr media burn speed ratings don’t mean a whole lot.... decent media can be burnt way higher than what it is rated for.
I have yet to screw up a 24x cdr while burning @ 40x
Manufacturers save money by making the same hardware and just putting new firmware on.
And Hard drive read speed prolly do make a difference when burning near 50x....
I don't know much about that.... I wouldn't think my 10k scsi drives would have a prob w/that......
