from what I've read the Sony looks to be a good buy. It burns both DVD-R and DVD+R......I plan to get one at some point

yeah and you want a DVD burner that burns DVD+R cuz they so far are the best.

I hope you're joking. DVD-R is the best one
I got a G4 (DP 1Ghz) with a Superdrive, and it's real good, but check: http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php
for a list of players that can read dvd-r dvd+r and buy a burner that can write discs that work in your set top, one kind may be the best but if it doesn't work in your dvd player it isn't the best for you.
FreshGear said that DVD+R works on most set tops, but I haven't had any trouble with -R, so it's mainly up to you and what you can watch.
