Ok so i finally downloaded Mandrake linux and installed it. It works but then it ask me for a user name i type it in then it ask me for a password i type it in then it says [zach@localhostzach]$ and i dont know what command to type in to actually get the desktop up and running. I know im a complete newbie at this but everyone has to start somewhere. Also how do i get the boot selector to work with 2 hard drives so i can switchs between the windows xp hard drive and the linux one.

type: "start x"

x is just the GUI.. like windows.. you can choose Gnome, or KDE.

dont matter.. just play.. thats how you learn..

Okay, since we have this topic, might as well keep it as the main Mandrake Help Center, so to speak. I have a US Robotics Modem in my computer that simply does not want to be auto-detected. I found this set of instruction (click here (http://www.math.sunysb.edu/~comech/tools/PCImodems.html)) but my console doesn't recognize the command setserial for some reason. Any explanations?

Thats just it, according to the list of compatible modems, mine is copmatible with Linux (i.e. not a winmodem) This makes little sense to me, and while I am on the subject, how do I access the MandrakeSecuirty features (looks like an easier way to configure my lan, which I am also having troubles with). If u know, let me know!
