Xbox Mini

I just finished putting a mod chip in my xbox so now its time to start the real modding. I plan to see how small I can make the xbox and to reduce some weight. I am trying to add a laptop hard drive, slim dvd drive, and dremel off some of that extra plastic inside of it. I am going to try and make it look original, but smaller. and feedback would be appreciated. I will get some pics up soon. If any of you guys have laptop hard drives I would rather buy them here than off ebay. (Support the modding crew)

If you figure out a way to use a laptop DVD and HD please tell us.
I have a x-box mod I would like to do... but Ive been to lazy to figure out the slimline DVD and laptop HD.
The laptop HD would be nice, expecially when the 100gb ones start shipping.

It might take a bit of experimenting. Do you think it will be as easy to put in the laptop hard as replacing a regular hard drive.

A 5.25" samsung 616t DVD drive modded with a normal HD should fit in a 1U rack (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20316&item=5704241177&rd=1)

Its not for a rack mount solution.
I justwant the total height to be 1u. Imagine one of those really slim dvd players. I want it no bigger than that.
Which will mean psu might have to go extrenal also.

I see. 1U for stereo equipment. Does the dvd drive have to play xbox games or can it just be used play media?

Ok I just got back from vacation and I am going to attempt this prodject. I am going to start with the laptop hard drive which I am looking on ebay for. I will post updates as soon as I have something.

Good luck. You are not going to get it smaller in width but in height you could shave a few off. You can make it any smaller then the xbox mobo. Send some pictures when you get it finished!

Yea I know I cant do anthing about the width but there is quite of lot of room i could save with laptob parts and making the black cradle they sit on smaller.

looks nice but only complaint is that the case is in 2 parts and that huge cracky thingy runnin down the middle ew?

Ya thats what i thought. I went to google and translated the webpage under language tools. The conversion isn't the greates but you can make out what they mean. The thing looks pretty ugly with that crack though. I will have to figure out a different way on mine.

all you really need to do is fill it in with something..and then paint it...any fillin in would look better than a huge crack

Yea I just read on to the second page and he put some bondo in it and then painted it. It didn't turn out too bad for him. except the x looks really weird.

not really. look on the second page.. he cut out little triangles at top and bottom which helps the X a great deal..
there are probably better ways you could make the mini ? <_< ?

I believe he usesd the smartx chip. Its the only mod chip that lets you use a lcd screen.
