I am trying to install Partition Magic so that I can make a new partition on my Hard Drive and install Linux, but the installation stops and says:
The setup has detected that you are running Windows NT/2000.NET Server. The Install will now exit.
I am installing Mandrake 8.2, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get around this problem or other partitioning software that won't make me lose my data.

I heard that on the new editoion of mandrake it makes a partion for you

when you install it. Im not sure because I havent downloaded it yet.

Just puting together my new system and then Im installing it on this

old comp. But thats what I heard. Read the thread Windows & Linux

in the Softwear section.

It just make a new partition out of the left over space you have and resizes the windows one.. YEs some times it can be dangerous but you should worry. Just back up everything of value before you partition or install duel Operation systems. Espacially with linux.. Sometimes Windows likes to Take its old partition back in destroy linux.

I'm not running XP... I'm running 2000. It was version 8. I also downloaded the powerquest "volume manager" but the demo does nothing.

Yes.. ITs best to just try out linux on another crappy computer (oh say 233mhz 3gb hdd, cdrom, fdd, monitor, 32mb ram maybe 64) Cause NTFS based windows systems like to Consume Alien operating systems that it doesnt understand... Linux runs perfect partitions with Fat systems (3.1, 95, 98, me)
