I was looking a my ps2 just now and it looked....Blah.

I wanna know, once it's open and i cut a 80mm hole in it, how could i power the fan? where exactly is the +12 volt line?

and i was also wondering if i am able to add a hard drive because i saw somewhere that they sell a 120gb maxtor ide ata133 for the ps2

ok i figured out the whole power bit but does anyone know about the hd part?

I've dissasembled the the casing and planning on painting it tomorrow or sunday. Dust free and dried. I'm going to paint it either a blue or a metalic silver. comments appreciated

Hey, kwl idea, im not sure exactly about the HD, but i think it could be done, just try google, ill try a little bit for u too. If u you have metalic silver and blue, go the silver first then put the blue over it, i did it to my xbox controller and its sweet. B) hope you find the HD tutorial, ill look around.

Where are you going to put the 80mm fan? If you put the HD in, won't the space get kinda tight? And why? Asthetics I suppose, you can't OC it. If you're putting a fan in, methinks it should be lit!

yeah, i just noticed the 80 mm fans i have are too thick. im not putting the hd in there, i just wanted to know cause space is tight and theres no way to connect it via IDE cables like it shows.

so basiclly im just gonna do a slick paint job with some blue and metalic silver accents.
more suggestions are open as im not painting yet. gotta wait for my dad to bring me to buy the paint either tomorrow or sunday. My mom would freak :D

The network adapter has a IDE connector on it.
There is the
Linux kit. (http://playstation2-linux.com/)

Most of the 80mm case fans are goin g to be 25mm or thicker.
This place has some 80x15 fans.
here (http://www.atechfabrication.com/HTPC_accessories.htm)
a little pricy though.

well im on to painting it.

i'll post pictures of the completed product.

I filled in all minor lettering and such. Covered up the caution, will be shocked if opened cause we're all modders and dont care about that :D

so i went with a metallic blue for the overall color, the tray, memory slots, and expansion bay cover will be silver.

FIrst off have no clue where the power connectors are on a ps2 never opened it afriad of voidin warrenty(even though i payed 100 bucks for them 2 clean the damn thing cause the tray got messed up ARGH). The hard drive part i think i got ya there dont know. First off the network adapter on it has built in ide and power for the HD so any hd will hook up to it(2 a certain degre u have to do some research) i found this software mod that i havent tested but looks like it would work and u can copy games(so they load faster HMMMMMMM) but i hope that helps.

Oh yea and i know what ya mean bout bein shocked all ps in my mods Cassette COmp and soon to be SPecial case(hmmmmm) but i always move ps after i unplug it and u get a suprise lets just say (zap Ah i cant feal my finger ah)

i got a new idea...in v5+ of the ps2's there are heatsinks. unluckily for me, i was one of those who had v5+. this heatsink now restricts any and all possible blowhole ideas. My idea was to nip off enough of the heatsink wings (the things that are comin up in strips) and place the fan in there. i might even put some bolts in there to keep it in place if i dont screw it on the casing. and the fan will substitute for those missing wings and i think help remove the heat even more.

if anyone has suggestions, comments, complaints to this idea...feel free to post :)

I'm basiclly gonna dremel off the ones i darkened with permanent marker if you can see it.

Just don't grind them all the way down. Then you wouldn't be able to draw air from underneath it, that would kind of defeat the purpose. Also, a blowhole will leave the top of the PS2 open when not in use, you might have a dust problem in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

ok i have a problem. the fan im planning on using for the blowhole doesnt have that little hole underneath the sticker with the washers and such. its just....closed up. how do you think i can get it off because i know for a fact all fan blades come off somehow..

hold the fan with the labels twhoard u, then put pressure on the blades untill it pops out.

I will take no responsibitlity for damaged fans

i actually did alot of work in a matter of 1 1/2 days. i sanded it all down a bit. i primered it with a rust-o-leum primer, let it dry 15 minutes, recoated it lightly. i did 4 coats of primer and it was nice and smooth. i then painted the case and such their particular color doing 6 or 7 coats each. then i applied about 5 coats of clear. the clear coat was the only krylon product. im amazed to say that the blue and clear dried amazingly fast, maybe cause of the humidity and weather we got here in new york. :D

anyway, it looks awesome in person. :)

That looks tight man now i want to paint my ps2 (the hole fan thing rly isnt needed for me i only play ps2 like once a week once i get a cool game for it i will play more often. Just my 2 cents but i think it would look tight with that blue then everything else black(all the things u painted silver black) just me im big fan of black blue combos(hmmmm no i dont get into alot of fights).

how hard is it to remove the caseing and all that to paint the case (im pretty sure my warrenty is gone so i dont care)

Is the cd rom and all that silver or primer clearcoated

I just opened my ps2 holy crap nm it alot of work to take off all the caseing for that thing got top off(cept the power and open button ribbon) and bottom but the middle with the fan grill and all the plates is impossible(i know it isnt but its allot of work) is there an easy way to get it off or u have 2 take ps and all that off with it. I was hopin u could just undo some screws and be done but if u have 2 take ouut cdrom ps and stuff to get it out i can deal with it bein blck

welll you need to take off the top, and on the left side where the hestsink is, there are four screws in each corner except in the top left (if your looking at it from the front). Theres one screw on the left side of the fan.

Instead of making a nice square design with the screws they make a scrappy trapezoid.. <_<

anyway after you got those 4 screws off you should be done. flip it over nice and slowly and it plop out.
