If you play it cool, you can get free samples from www.vishay.com (http://www.vishay.com). If not, radioshack (http://www.radioshack.com) sells them of course, also www.lsdiodes.com (http://www.lsdiodes.com). Never bought from LSDiodes but they have killer cheap prices. Sure beats the 4$ you would pay for one at radioshack.

As for powering it, theres 5v readily available in the xbox going to the hard drive, just calculate the value resistor that you would need and jsut tap it off of the hard drive leads. Remember RED is +5v.

Also as a tip for clearing up the jewel, Ive read somewhere that white toothpaste really helps. Guess that makes sence. Think it was on xbox-scene but dunno.

Have fun and post pics when fin.

Xbox-scene (http://www.xbox-scene.com) is the answer to all Xbox mod related questions. You'll find a bunch of very detailed tutorials. Good luck with light mod. However, you can get the cold cathode lights from an 80mm fan and use that instead, it gives it a more even glow. Check em out at xbox-scene, you'll wind up modding more than just the jewel.

Ok, I was looking around for leds. If I got them off of LSDiodes.com should I get the THC3 kind or the regular 5mm kind or 3mm??

also how do you plug just 2 wires into a molex connector to power the leds.

Get 3mm. To power them, you can get a molex y-splitter and use either the 12v, or the 5v, plus a ground. You will need the right resistors also. This site (http://metku.net/index.html?sect=view&n=1&path=mods/ledcalc/index_eng) will help you determine what resistors you need.

what do the 4 colors on the molex wires stand for?

the red wire is +5v, the two black cables are both ground, and the yellow is +12v.

Could the same thing be done with the Gamecube jewel?

Would be difficult since the cd spins right beneath it. No room.
