Materials

If one were to build a case, what materials would be best and easiest. Can one make a fiberglass case at home? What about plastic? Any help would be appreciated.

CarbonFiber would be easier than fiber glass but would cost you a pretty penny. And i'm assuming by plastic you mean acryllic and lots of people do that. You can pretty much make a case out of anything you want to if you have the time to do it. If i were building one i would go with light gauge sheet metal that is if you can weld.

An acrylic case can built relativly easily. All you need is some plexi and some glue (Methalane Chloride[sp]) and some brackes. Maybe a small bernz-o-matic torch to bend the plastic in some places.

WHY would carbon fiber be easier the fiberglass? Lay-up is lay-up. (unless your talking about the pre-made pannels for ungodly amounts of money) Both are gonna be really rough on cutting tools (try to use only carbide in it)

I found a few places that make colored carbon fiber. And mix. The kevlar/Carbon weave looks so sweet. (and MUCH better impact resistant then straight crabon Kevlar is wonderful in a lay-up. I just hate it as a rope)

U dont necesarily need to know how to weld to use aluminum metal or whatever just need to know how 2 rig it like get brackets or somethin im tryin to get a mod done right now that im usin plexi to hold mobo and aluminum l brackets 2 hold the plexi works just takes up bit more space and makes it easy 2 take apart(metal box im usin was alrdy built just puttin server it it. Once i get all the parts bought screws etc i will make a work log on it (may take a bit cause i dont feel like goin 2 ace and pickin up bunchs of screws.

I think it would be tight to make one out of clay infact i may take a pottery class just to do that. dont know if it woudl work but i cant think of a reason y it wouldnt just have to make sure its strong and smoth and that you plan it so all the fans mobo etc are all rdy to go cause clay that is alrdy been in kelm(think thats how u spell that) is hard 2 cut without messing up.

mold the clay around wire mesh. They will support each other beter then alone.
