If it is AT PSU then it will power on with a switch. If it is an ATX PSU you will need to mod a little bit. Heres a guide from the one and only ramsinks.

aha! it wont work unless you jump the 1 green cable on the 20 pin connector with any random black cable there.
The green cable is PS-ON basiclly once that cable recieves a completion in the circuit it will turn the psu on. the black cable is the cable needed for completion.
basiclly just stick a paperclip in there and you're set. it'd be better to add a switch between those two if you want to close it occasionally UNLESS the psu already has one.

ok i understand.... cut the green wire n a black one n just wire them up to a switch and thats it right? all i'm gonna do is power up like 2 cc lights and maybe if i can figure it out my MP3 wire for the charger wich says output +5Vdc so do i basicly just get the same wire n just get a molex connector thing and put the two wires in it and plug it in?

I once had an AT PSU that needed to be plugged into the mobo to work, but it had a seperate switch plug that came out of the psu. Had 3 wires.
Purple. Black. Green. Cant remember which ones you connect. Assuming green/black like the ATX?
Anyways you probally dont have a PSU wit that anyways. Posted purely for the sake of information.

Yup, pretty straight forward.
You can even just touch the green wire to the PSU case if you wanted to :P

Unless you want to use a car battery or another large wet battery. The CC inverthers draw too much power and the batterys would run out in like 30 seconds.

30 seconds seems a little exagerated, but you make the point.
(granted going from DC to AC is not very effiecient. )
