figured you guys might want to see the spoils of my pondering and hard work. Clear Acrylic PS2 case with two 4 inch cold cathode lights. Also notice the matching controller and memory card colors, not to mention added sync with the reset and eject buttons.

I wanted the lights to turn off when the unit was in standby, but nothing was easy/safe ro route power from, so i simply took 12v power from the mobo pins and installed a slider switch next to the usb ports. I stored the inverter in the HD expansion port, but i dont plan on using a hd anyway. I would have included a pic of the switch, but my camera wont capture detail that tiny.

Those are really bright. Did you do a work log? Do you have a pic of where you got your power from on the mobo? I've had a clear case for a couple of months and I would like to put CC UV light in it.

Also, have you played on it for a long period of time, several hours in a row? Just wondering if there are any heat problems with the lights sitting right on top of the heat sinks like that.

I have played it for quite some time. my record since installing the lights is around 3-4 hours. CC lights dont emit any heat, and i haven't noticed any change in performance. The unit gets warm, but not dangerously hot by any means.

I think my camera enhanced the lights a bit. they really arent THAT bright. you can stare at them for awhile without your eyes hurting or anything. They emit more of a pleasant glow than anything else.

I took my energy from the power source under the ps2. You can see it with the acrylic case no problem. There are 4 pins that push into a connector. Depending upon your version of ps2, itll be a bit different. I simply ran wires off the 2 pins i needed and attached it to the switch. I created the hole in the case for the switch by using a hot nail and various sized files to fine tune the shape. The only part of the mod that I'm not terribly content with is how i attached the lights to the heatsink. I just used the velco they came with. One set was attached to the back of the controller/mem card ports, and the other was stuck to the heatsink. It doesnt look perfect, and the heat from the unit might not keep the adhesive sticking, but I'll just have to wait and see.

I would post pics of the power source, but my camera is really bad at up-close detailed pics, it doesnt focus very well for some reason

Here's an idea! Stick Lil lights in the controlers and control the lights with the rumble feature. rumble FLASH! rumble FLASH! but make sure they are LED's

That is really nice. ;) I think the brightest would effect me playing games. I would just stare at the thing. :P

Very nice. My buddy has 2 semi-broken PS2s that I want to do this to.

Clear Case? Where you get that or did you make it?

Nice MOD by the way! I like it. :D

Now you have to get those controllers to light up :)

They run, but not well. They'll do crazy stuff with mem cards and will decide to just not read games sometimes.

when you say hot nail, do you mean you heated up a nail and drove it through the plastic?

yup, propane torch heated up a nail and i just poked the plastic a few times. made a decent sized hole and then used files to grind it into a perfect shape.

Stick Lil lights in the controlers and control the lights with the rumble feature

Yes... a very good idea indeed. although I wonder if it'd get annoying at any point in time, and if i could route a switch to it without having it look ugly.

bought it off ebay. you can try googling for other sources, but the things arent exactly cheap.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Makes it all worthwhile. I think ill start tearing apart the controllers and see what i can do.
