ok i know there about 100 threads on this but, i have heard a few different answers as far as exactly what is overclocking? i saw some where it is basicly just getting your case and CPU and such nice and cool so it runs faster. what is it though? i'm just wondering.. you know broden my knowledge

overclocking is not hard. It is the simple fact of keeping things cool. If they are not cool they could melt. I have a multiplier on my motherboard. some computers will have bios setings where you can go in and change the voltages.. some other motherboards have spacific bios settings for overclocking. I bet most updated motherboards have the overclocking bios setting.

You didn't really answer his question though...
A CPU runs at a certain speed, normally shown as X.X Ghz which is also called Clock Speed.
now that i told you that, take apart the word "overclocking" you see "over" and "clocking." the clocking is the speed of CPU and the over simply means to push the clock speed OVER that of the specified specification.
Though this WILL void your warrenty and possibly damage your CPU if done wrong.

no....not on any pre-built computer. Why would they want you to buy a cheaper CPU and then go and overclock it?
