I want to do a Cup holder mod (cooled by a case fan) on the outside of my case, on the drive bay.. (actuially i dont care where it is). My pathetic attempt at this (last weekend) ended as my bottle crashed and burned (er.. spilled) on my desk. Does anyone have any ideas?

fan cooled cup holder??? Uh, for a cold beverage, that would be a warmer, no? THe fan will be blowing room temp air over a colder glass, hence it will warm it to room temp faster then no fan. Add in a TEC.

i want to build one, not buy one, and the fan idea , now that i think of it, was idiotic

No man! It just needs a TEC. I have a couple of smaller 30watters that will frost a cold plate in free air. Went below 0C (my temp rig stops at 0C) just add a 80mm fan the the heat sink on the hot side and duct it away.

well.. that is hard to say actually. the increased air flow will allow more condensation from the outside of the glass to evapourate, hence cooling it. If the cup was conpletely dry on the outside, then yes it would warm it to room temp faster

Actually no. Those water droplets are not cooling, they are warming. They are already cooled water vapour from the air, cooled by the glass. The glass is cooling the air around it not the other way around. Your thoughts would be perpetual motion

thats cool. what are those things that made it cold?

peltier junctions or TECs (thermo eletric cooling) the get hot on one side, cold on the other. Gotta cool the hot side. Theres a formular for the temp diff, from the hot to cold sides. Basically, the colder the hot side, the colder the cold side.

neat. are they expensive?

a peltier. or also know as TEC

frozen cpu sells them here

Hey woah, I was thinking the exact same thing, if you dont believe me, go to www.twistedforums.com, and then click on case modding, and then sometihng with keeping stuff cool, a beverage holder, do it, go to www.twistedmods.com, creepy thing also, is they said peltier to....
