i recently bought 'hardware hacking for geeks', and was disipointed to find that i couldnt use my linksys card on the antenna mod, so i tried taking a can of peaches, and cutting the top & bottom off, then coiling a hanger around it, and placing the device over my wifi card, and it slightly worked... the reason i am doing this is because i cant use my laptop in my room on wifi :( ..... tell me what i need to do....?

You need a card with the mc type antenna connection like a Ornico Gold.

A pigtail wire and a N-Female chassis mount connector.

A small piece of 12 gauge wire.

A tin can.

Total about $25.00 for the antenna and Im gussing about $50.00 for the PCMCIA card. (Paid $50 for mine)

I hacked a USB D-Link DWL-122 WiFi adapter to use an external antenna. I removed the little internal antenna and soldered on the cut down pigtail. I git the pigtail from a Hawkings omnidirectional antenna. (using this antenna with a parabolic refector; card stock and tin foil, i got better reception then wiht the Hawkings direction)

Check out www.pasternack.com for connectors, pigtails, etc.

I made the bottom parabolic reflector and use it with a MS single antenna USB wifi adapter. I fixed it so it can slip down on the antenna of the adapter when desired. I faced the reflector with aluminum foil. Makes the adapter significantlly directional for increasing the signal strength, or locating wireless hot spots.
